To continue yesterday's post on Marc Jacob's Fall collection, the campaign came out these past couple weeks and only reinforces the sense of nostalgia I got from the show. As for the first shot, well, that kind of carpet-wallpaper-furniture combo just brings a certain sentimentality to the already wistful shimmery bow dress and long brown skirt. The last two remind me of the part of childhood nostalgia where you try and recall what it's like to really enjoy the things around you and to find them new and exciting. So basically what I'm trying to say is, Juergen Teller is a time-traveling copycat who went into the future, read my blog, and then used my interpretation of it for his photography. The joke is on him, though, because his copycatting forced me to write that sentence, which made me think of a great new idea for a television series I will soon try to get in development: TIME-TRAVELING CAT.

You are such an insperation to young girls your age that you can be both intrested in fashion and still be adiquete and have a good prospect of environmental issues and the effects of fashion magazines (such as your open letter)
keep up the good work

I don't know if it's just me but I get some darker undertones from this campaign. Almost like they're children who know they've done something bad and are thinking about what their parents will say. It's also mixed in with that sense of childish ignorance as well though. I love it, it works so well with the collection.
OMG. I read a book about a time-traveling cat when I was a kid. Don't remember the title but I know I loved it so I say yes to this possible show.
Such a feminine collection. Beautiful!

Beautiful. I just want to be in the campaign, maybe sitting to the side or climbing up the tree.

But who will win the ratings race? Time-Traveling Cat or Handiquacks?

Amazing. Think I'm in love.

Beautiful clothes, and awesome blog post...you are quite an inspiration!
My only quarrel is with the photos that followed the first. I *so* do not dig the practice of dressing women in fashionable clothes, then posing them as if they are dead or dying, and passing it off as "glamorous." I know you write more about the fashion itself, and its overall visual feel...but those pics completely freaked me out. :(
love these photos! great collection.

*sigh* Juergen Teller.
it's so interesting to me how the runway photos and campaign photos elicit different personal responses for me. i didn't really think of the collection as nostalgic until it was pointed out in your posts about it, and even then, it didn't really resonate emotionally with him. but looking at the campaign, i can definitely see it. the muted colors & the skygazing in the second two - that's basically all my powerful memories of childhood, right there. really beautiful.
Marc Jacobs Fall collection is amazing! Victoria Beckham has been sporting some brilliant find's, as for the campaign- amazing.
The colours and locations are perfect, as always :)

I couldn't agree more, this campaign manages to be wistful and nostalgic and fresh and modern at the same time. I don't know quite how thats possible but by the sheer force of Marc's exquisite designs and Teller's photographic genius (even if he is a copycat!) it is!
And I would definitely watch a programme about a time-travelling cat, make it happen! X

the long full skirts coupled with the ankle socks remind me of my social studies teacher in 7th grade. she was so cool, with cat eyes and eccentric, modest clothes. one of my first favorite style inspirations...
Ember-I didn't see the models as dying or dead or passed out, to me they look like they're stargazing and enjoying the atmosphere around them. Thank you for the different point of view though!
AAHHH. I love Marc Jacobs. And I will marry him and love him forever and keep him on a shelf. Just being there. Being wonderful. :)
But no, I <3 <3 <3 the collection and you're spot on with the nostalgia thing.
Love,

clothing pretty good. i never understand the marc jacobs photos, though.
Marc Jacobs never ceases to surprise me. It seems to me that his work and campaigns get better each year. I love how everything is monocromatic, it reminds me a bit of the Celine collection actually (which I also loved).

Mr Teller, he's ever so visionary - and so are you, obviously!
Looking at these pictures and think.
I want to be slim as a giraffe, light as a feather, delicate as a ceramic bohemian.
Instead I look on my windowsill full of cacti and succulents and console myself .... at least they are happy to be!

Marc Jacobs never fail to amaze me. Always gorgeous. :) Love love love! :D
I love this campaign and most of all, love your blog! I'm pretty copy heavy too, as I love to write.
You have to check out my tribute to Simon Doonan's "Eat, Shop, Love" article in Bazaar...my heart literally stopped and yours will too; it's hilarious!

I'm with Ember; my first thought was "why do the girls all look dead?" I love the clothes - really love them. But the deadness aspect really dampens the experience for me.
this is really beautiful. i don't think they look like they're dying or dead either - its more like laying in a field enjoying the sunshine in really really expensive clothes. i do love laying out and gazing at the clouds so it is more nostalgic for me too :)

when i opened up my W magazine a few days ago i let out a yelp, i love this ad, frida was such a good choice!
Someone else must have gone into the future and read your blog because there's already a children's book called Time Cat. My boyfriend insisted I read it a few months ago, and well, now I insist the same upon you.
Marc is a genius. Love him. He has to rape my closet soon.
Haha you crack me up everytime
Je moet een ballon kunnen opblazen, maar hem ook kunnen leegprikken
To me the models look like they're a part of nature. It's like their bodies are drawing nourishment from the earth and the sun! For me, it's more life-affirming than anything else.
And I think the first picture has a kind of nervous boarding school girls out on a day trip vibe -'Picnic at Hanging Rock' style?
I was looking at these today in a magazine and was thinking i wanted to rip them out and put them on my wall...thanks for posting
Beautiful Photos. I absolutely love the style.

Lucy Lu: Campaign photos illicit different emotional responses to collections because they're supposed to. The clothes and models are styled and photographed deliberately to make the audiences feel nostalgic. With runway photos- it's just a woman walking swiftly in clothes- clothes that can conjure notions of childhood for some, but when styled in a photograph- everything is deliberate.
I am a big fan of Juergen Teller. These are beautiful pictures!

Funny how much deep we fall in love. And if that was not enough, I bumped into one of Martina Cole Books. The book talked about long-lost loves. You should read it.
Great blog BTW :)

Stunning photos!
It is a fabulous collection, love the 3/4 length skirts and dresses fro autumn/winter
Oh god. The retro-looking clothing and sepia toned colors give these a Newsreels of WWII look, to me.
They feel like they're supposed to have a caption that reads "bodies recovered from bombed homes, East End, London, 1941."
That's a vague nostalgia I can do without. I get enough war-torn misery at my day job.
Also- dead-looking ladies. The theme is getting old.
I agree with the above comment. This campaign looks beautiful but I think it is a bit sick to do something that is really quite reminiscent of jews killed in WWII.
http://lovelovelondonfashion.blogspot.com
you know when i first viewed this collection, I was a bit skeptical... but now it's growing on me!
The 2nd picture reminds me of banana leaves drying. Why do they do that again? Well, it's for something beneficial and I'm sure lying there in those clothes are beneficial too...
yeah.
but anyway, I always love his campaigns. most of them are on my wall or collected obsessively in a notebook of them I keep by my Vogue Paris's...
I personally think the models look dead. It doesn't do justice to the clothes. It's a very weird atmosphere...The first model we see on the second pic looks like a deflated balloon.
I think it's very Virgin Suicides-ish, meets Emily Bronte maybe? Definitely melancholic. BTW, would love the option to RSS your blog and put it front and center on my iGmail home page!
well, i hope the shot was quick, because lying on grounds like that in positions like this isn't very cosy. but i like the vibe and your idea. its about time that Schrödinger's cat got a companion ^_^
I love this collection and I agree totally with you...

Alat Pemadam kebakaran
Beautiful shot.
