greens, pinks, light blues, skies and sea

Sometimes seeing one photo sets off my memory and I immediately associate it with images I have stored in the back of my mind. While internet-stalking a bunch of Prada lookbooks for a SUPER HUGE IMAGE SPAMMING BEAUTIFULNESS-OVERLOAD post going up later this week, a couple photos from the Spring 2008 sent me digging into the archives of Tumblr as well as my head as well as the folder entitled "can you please just like marry me" on my desktop..Royal Tenenbaums books, neon water Meisel goddesses, Totoro greens, Hanne in the new issue of Numero shot by Lina Scheynius, nebula, and fish grazing in coral (do fish graze?)
Prada, Numero, Nebula, Family of Geniuses, Meisel, coral, second Totoro still. Other photos, Youtube screencaps.

Hey Tavs: I can call you that, right? Sure. Did you know the colors in the outerspace/galaxy/nebula pictures from the Hubble (Hubbs?) telescope are basically faked by Nasa? I always thought if I were afloat in the universe, it would look exactly the pictures and be sparkly cosmic smatterings of pastels. Nope. The human eye cannot see the gasses that the whatevers emit, so Nasa has assigned each gas a color. Also, the Hubbs "sees" differently than us. It's basically just a light capturing machine.

Don't know how I feel about the Meisel images. I followed the link to see more; some look beautiful, like the girls are dreaming, some look like crime scene photos. But I'm sure that's the idea, the whole, mildly pretentious, beautiful is really ugly, you're ignorant and I'm enlightened dodadodado... But I digress. Wonderful connection of colors. Though we don't share the same design aesthetic I certainly appreciate your blog and your wit.

Hey hon,
word of advise on where your success is leading you. Unfortunately in this world, if you're doing something right....a lot of people are going to hate you. As you grow more successful (which I believe is inevitable) you will probably have to face a lot more hate. There are many people who have massive problems with their own insecurities......and strangely, a lot of the time these people are the "cool" people or seemingly "top of their game" (look at how many CEO's have drug and alcohol issues)...others are people just struggling with their every day mundane existence and are jealous of people living out their desires (ah, I believe you'll find this sort slagging you off in your "comments" section). Sadly, these jealous people may even sometimes be members of your family or friends. There is a LOT of them out there. And they will try to hold you back and put you down (i.e all that Dior hat hoo ha. Talk about petty jealousy! Who gives a shiznit about something like that?). IGNORE THEM! Ignore them all!!! Stay true to what you believe in and I promise you, you will do amazingly. I was considered a "freak" in high school, now I'm considered a "trend setter". I was told I "can't do" many of the things I strived towards, now I'm about to begin multiple internships with the organizations I most admire in the world. Ignore the haters, you are something special and they know it, and they are intimidated by it. Particularly when they don't "get" you....which is what happens with unique people. Unfortunately most geniuses through history have been outsiders of society. However, you have a very endearing personality so I'm sure you'll always have as many lovers as haters (hopefully the scales will tilt more to love than hate). The world needs more people like you, you're one of a kind. So stay true to yourself and keep pushing those boundaries, even if it does piss some people off. Because at the same time, it gives people like me a reason to exist in this often very negative world. Thanks for the inspiration. Peace Tavi : )

Heya! I was wondering if I could possibly get your e-mail, because I am a big fan of yours, and also an amateur "fashion designer", and I REALLY want to make you a dress. Like, REALLY. You have such great taste in movies (Royal Tenenbaums, Ghost World, Harold and Maude) and artists (Edward Gorey, oh, how I love him). And I just want to make you something, because you are just so inspirational!!

awesome! i've just started reading and looking through your blog...

fun fact: those are sea-feathers sticking out from the coral there...they are animals related to sea-stars. When you touch the bristle/feather part they grab onto whatever is touching them and pull it in towards their mouth...they are beautiful and fun to play with!

Hi Tavi :-)) Have never seen an episode of "30 rock" so wasn't able to comment on your review :-( BUT - I did buy a copy of "The Royal Tenenbaums" the other day, and I really like it! I can't wait to watch it again 'cause I'm sure it's one of those movies where the more you watch it the more you get out of it. My favourite character is Margot. I'm kinda jealous of how she was a playwriting prodigy - but kinda happy that she wasn't able to capitalise on that early promise [is that bad? :-)]. I also find her kinda anti-personality strangely appealing.

Dear Tavi -

great collage again and - as the unpredictable IWANTTHISRIGHTNOW-destiny plays, it took me only some clicks further in my favourite german fashion diy-magazine/blog called "CUT" to find some battlestar galactica goddess-alike batic designs, that made me think over and over again, if I would ever have the guts to get that great blueberrycottoncandy-coloured hair as you do. my roomy tried something like deep purple on me last summer, but it washed out in 4 weeks and I was out of a sudden blond: Total opposite, hair dying chapter failed and closed.
