i'm bright orange and i love lasagna

IMG_4491
Hello there!

This is what I wore on the day of Christmas Eve (when will I EVER post an outfit on the day I wore it again?) during shopping and wrapping and stuff.
I was expecting stores to be busy but they weren't. I felt like the only idiot that had waited til last minute and it was frustrating. A worker at Borders said to me, "So what, are you like, gothic?"IMG_4504
Flea market crinoline underneath Samantha Pleet skirt. American Apparel sheer button-down and lace bodysuit (looks like leggings.) Rodarte for Target sequined ribcage dress (Because of the new law, I am supposed to let you know that I received compensation and pieces from the Rodarte for Target collection for my collaboration with Target.) Dad's chunky socks. Pierre Hardy for Gap shoes. Joke shop sunglasses.

**Please note, MOST PERFECT SKIRT POUF EVER. This $4 crinoline is an all-time wardrobe favorite. Snookie would be proud.

Anyway, this was one of those outfits that went in a completely different direction than what I wanted to do initially. First I wanted to be a gothic (ding ding ding, Borders person) Circus freak -- crinoline, lace, sheer diamond-patterned button-down -- then I felt like wearing the ribcage Rodarte for Target dress and figured it was circusy enough because of the sequins, then I realized it would be perfect with these freaky reflective eye sunglasses I bought a few weeks ago at a joke shop. So then the outfit got like...sciency. Or something. Go x-rays.
Untitled 2
I love these sunglasses, they make me feel like a reptile Madonna.details
Oh chunky Pierre Hardy for Gaps, how I love theeeee.
The watch is a gift from Timex. I think I'm as excited about the case it came in as I am about the watch:
IMG_4428
I plan on making it into a bizarre coffin headpiece and am currently on the search for the perfect dead-looking doll to place inside.

Amazing! I absolutely love this place. Namely, because it gives me inspiration, and secondly because when I was your age I wish I had the knowledge now--the knowledge we both share about clothing. It would help me even more these days as I venture with my photography.

But seriously... I might take a piece of this post with me when I finally put together my "Alice in Wonderland" photography project.

Cheers to you! Great post!

Ha, I just realized I said "place." Didn't mean that. I meant "post."

Hey Tavi,

First time comment-er ... ON ANYTHING (political, press, pop, people etc etc) and I'm just glad that it's your blog receiving my premiere written serenade.

I came across an etsy shop for art dolls - "they're for the tattered Victorian gothic in you." I suppose that's why it looks like Tim Burton's had a hand in producing them. 'Corpse Bride' and all.

Here's the link:

i think what's great about your photos is that you make them not just like 'here-is-what-i-like, click click!' but the design and how you put them together. I love how you pose, which is always 'ok, just look what i'm wearing' and it's not as 'oh how stylish i look'. The pictures are not only about the outfit itself. (where you have the offbeat suggestions of combination) It can also be the pattern or the bowknot that is inspiring.
Here you have more of Halloween style, haha, i mean the skeleton and the black lace but definetely the WOW effect!
You're cool cos you're different! Thumbs up for not being affraid to be so!

Oh and exciting news! Today I ordered for sets of the little Japanese food (Re-ment is the brand). I can't wait to see which ones I got! I'm soo posting them on my blog :]

When the person at borders asked if you were gothic, i don't think it was Derogatony. (i love fake snookie) I think your outfit is totally The Carnivorous Carnival.

I think I know the perfect doll for the coffin too:
http://www.thevalleyofthedolls.com/dollshop.php/Little_Pullip/Little_Cornice
Our 3 and a half year old, Esme, saw this doll at the Japanese grocery store and had to have it. I think the bright pink hair, (which is brighter in real life) would totally clash/match with the coffin. and while it doesn't look dead, exactly, it's got that haunted mansion/lolita look down pat...

Thats a pretty cool christmas eve outfit in my opinion! I really like the monochrome theme of the clothes you chose, and then topped off with those wacky glasses.
And the crinoline idea is great, I'll remember that! The best things are always found at flea markets..
The chunky socks/ sandals combination is great too. I have a bit of a penchant for socks at the moment, usually over tights with brogues or something.
Oh, and I forgot to reply to the point you made about the comment I left on your debate. It made me realise that the item's original story is only half of it. What we do creates another tale for that dress/ coat/pair of shoes etc..
Thinking about it, I can always remember what outfits I wore on memorable occasions. For example, my favourite pendant is a vintage owl. I was wearing it the day I got scouted- which makes it even more special to me! Thanks for pointing that out to me.
And it would be nice if I could then pass on some of those pieces to someone else one day and tell them the story behind it.
Okay, I could have probably said that in a lot less words, but oh well!

I pretty much adore this outfit, because it is really original, where do you get your insperation from, because I tend to get lots of mine from you and I loved what you were wearing at the marc jacobs '10 show. Me and my friend have only recently created our blog and we were wondering how you made you blog so amazingly popular?...

Hahahaha... epic little coffin thing. My friend has an Edward Cullen doll that her extremely intelligent dog ripped to shreds (along with a take home test and iPod) that she made a grave for. I'd look beast in that XD

i don't know that anyone has told you already about this, but the living dead dolls are adorable, and i think would work perfectly. on the off chance that the coffin's dimensions are large enough.

I wonder how that Borders person would react if you went even further and added Circus style makeup! bet you would've looked wickedd, in all the right ways of course!

I can't wait to see that bizarre coffin headpiece you might make. I wonder what's going to pop up from inside...

It's awesome I love it but I'm WAY jealous that you have your hands on the box ! I bought mine in France and the box broke in my luggage on my way back to Oz.

I love this outfit.
I secretly watch Jersey Shore online with my BF. I find it highly entertaining. However I do not find SNL funny at all. It has been the most unfunny thing on television for the past 15 years. I happened to see the skit before and... ugh I have nothing to say. This is funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_BLggf-mqs

Great, really great.
