Happy blogiversary! I thought it was really interesting how you compared Balmain to Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto, who belong to this sort of modern but timeless category, but I think Issey Miyake would fit in nicely too. I think that their timelessness has to do with this sharp Japanese aesthetic and Balmain makes clothes to appease to celebrities and continue this momentum the label has been getting through editorials. I don't know, just some randomness I thought I'd spew.

I haven't been reading your blog for all that long, but whenever I check it, I always enjoy what you've posted. The way you dress and the way you think, for a 12 year old and as a person in their own right, amazes me. Congrats to the wonderful blog, love the video and blah blah.. I do agree with you and everyone commenting on Balmain's recent 80's-inspired collections, but huh, let's not forget that fashion business is still a business. When that hard-to-pronounce Decarnin took over designing for Balmain, the house was in financial coma, so I think he's just forced to keep commerce in mind while designing the clothes - and those collections, well, they just sell well.

I swear, you are the most eloquent 12 year old I have heard speak with my own two ears!
Although with the Balmain "look" you suggest, just like Lagerfeld and even Tom Ford have been quoted, the "look", the "image", and the "lifestyle" is what sells. Balmain has been around for a while now and established their own appeal that reaches in a spectrum of more than just clothing... and I feel that is what makes them successful as a business and possess such a loyal market.
Just my two cents into the whole discussion.
